Job

I have been reading the book of Job the past few days. If Job only had to go through chemo and radiation he probably would have been a happy man.
Here is what I read and what I would like to pass on to you.....

(NIV)
Job 11: 13-16
"Yet if you devote your heart to him, and stretch out your hands to him, if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent, then you will lift up your face without shame; you will stand firm and without fear. You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by."

Luke, as time goes by I believe you will always see 2008 as one of your greatest years. The year you drew closer to God in a special way!! As stated in the book of Job " My ears had heard of You but now my eyes have seen You." Job 42:5. What a testimony God is building in you and lara' s life!! You are and will continue to be a blessing and inspiration for a very long time!! It is one of my blessings from God to know you and Lara as friends.

Hi Luke,

Admittingly, I have not done much Bible Study, but I am familiar with the Book of Job and am glad that you're reading it and finding comfort. Thank you for sharing that with us. Powerful words, indeed.

Hope you're doing well and are having an easy recovery from the chemo/radiation.

Keep that in mind. :) Best wishes, as usual.

Luke as I look upon your bolgs and follow your trials, I too wait to find out if I have lung cancer. I don't smoke. I made peace early with God as he already blessed me with my children. You give strength to those who are not sure of the future, I trust in God to guide me and all others. Good Luck, and wish you well, and look forward to your testimonies. God Bless. y'know, the thing that interests me about Job is that none of the advice of his pious friends impressed him much. Only when the Creator of the universe pulled back the curtain for a little.... gave Job a tiny glimpse of the Big Picture... was Job satisfied. (And the Creator didn't explain Job's own trouble to Job... but Job was satisfied, nevertheless.)

This, to me, is a profound lesson -- that there is so much Big Picture stuff that we, stuck in time as we are, cannot perceive. It can be so hard and so frustrating and yet we know the One who made us is Love, and that someday we will see clearly though now we can only see dimly. Time on earth is intended as some kind of learning experience for us all, I think, and it can be so, so hard, the learning. But often we can see, looking back, that the anguish resulted in growth that would not have come any other way.

Doesn't make it easy. But that viewpoint helps me when stuff... hurts. Maybe there's something useful for you there, too.

Take care, Luke --

But, did Job have to deal with Midwest winters? ;-) (Just kidding)

I see by the website that Chapter 6 is currently in my fair state. (Why your people schedule events in Western Michigan in the winter is beyond me. You must like snow!) Unfortunately, it's the wrong side of the state, and due to the bad weather I wasn't able to do the long drive to see Saturday's show.

Are you feeling well enough to be touring yet? If I can make it to either the Flint or K-Zoo show, I'll be sure to try to see you afterwards if you're doing any autograph sessions.

Please be careful on the roads. If you're not dealing with snow/ice, you'll be dealing with potholes!

What an incredible promise. How easily we forget, sometimes, what God has already brought us through. It's one of the reasons I write... I look back through journals and can see one thing after another that God has provided, answered, delivered, healed... This is huge for me today. I needed this right now. No matter what trials I'm facing (and all of us always have something), if I can just stand fast in my faith, I will be able to look back and recall it only as waters gone by. Thank you, Lord! Hold tight to that promise, because God's word endures, and He is steadfast and eternal. I just have to sit and watch, and before long these troubles will have simply floated on downstream! Thanks for the reminder!

Luke,

Your optimism and strength after all you have endured are truly awe-inspiring. It is so exciting to know that you have finally completed your treatments. I am so happy to hear how well you are doing.

I hope you and Lara have a happy healthy year this 2009and that the whole experience of last year's diagnosis and treatment fade rapidly to a distant memory.

Stay cool:)
